I have been an avid reader since I had the chicken pox in third grade. With three of my younger siblings infected at the same time, my mother was desperate to keep me occupied. She drove to the public library and borrowed a stack of different books. I read them all and was thoroughly hooked on reading.
As I grew up, I would sneak romance novels AND the early editions of classics like Treasure Island and Through the Looking Glass from my mom's bookshelves because I was
"too young" for them. I started to realize that some books are perfectly acceptable to read and talk about in public with pride. With other books, people are ashamed or embarrassed and hide them or talk about them in whispers. (Shades of Grey, anyone?) This seems to be especially true where I live, in the Deep South.
I realized that I have eclectic tastes in books and love to talk about them all. That is what I aim to do here, along with providing a guide as to which books might upset some observers' delicate sensibilities.
